We went camping for one night at a state park on Lake Alatoona, only about 40 min away. It was a really nice campground with a water pump and electric at our site. The bathrooms were even kept cleaner than any I've seen. We were lucky not to get rained on, but it was very hot- 93 degrees and humid! We were all covered in sweat, especially Brad and myself.
After much effort, lots of pine needles, and no fire starter log (I learned my lesson), Luke was able to get our wood to catch fire.
The kids loved the smores and hot dogs- what a sticky/dirty mess.
Abby caught a couple tiny frogs to put in her bucket. I was amazed that she didn't squish them. She loved that- talking to them like little baby frogs. This girl loves animals.
Brad got Filthy. The whole time we were setting up camp, he was filling the buckets with rocks and pine needles. Then, he was throwing the rocks down the little hill behind our site. Can you see in the picture the piles of rocks and needles he placed on top of the kids' chairs?
Both kids wanted to cuddle with Daddy at bedtime. No shirt for Brad because of the heat and his super sweaty little body.
Abby loved reading books on Daddy's early Father's Day present, a Kindle. Luke also loves his present.
That is a great tent because of the space inside and whatnot, but it's a beast to set up!
Even with a pack n play, Brad took forever to fall asleep- talking and singing to himself. He probably finally slept at almost 11pm. He woke up in the middle of the night to the scary "choo choo" (We need to bring a fan for noise control and comfort, if we have electricity!). Then, he was wide awake at 6am with all the birds singing. Oh, camping with a tiny one.
Abby is not the light sleeper that her brother is, thank goodness! She slept quite well.
In the morning, we packed up and put on our swimsuits. There's a little beach at the park lake. It was covered in cigarette butts! The kids did have fun playing in the sand and water, but were a little tired and cranky, so we didn't stay long.
We had a yummy lunch at Sweet Tomato on the way home.
